About

The idea for this website grew out of my involvement as a volunteer guide at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Museum. I wanted to be able to provide interested students and teachers with a list of resources about the Holocaust, that they could use for further research. I started compiling some information, and soon found myself with a document that was over 100 pages long. I knew that this was not something that I could simply email to people; nobody was going to be interested in scrolling through such a huge document. I decided to use this information as the basis of an educational site that could provide a broad range of sources in a meaningful way.

The main focus of this site is based on discussing the Holocaust as a catastrophic event in the history of the Jews of Europe, which must be viewed in the context of a very long history of anti-Semitism in Europe, over a period of several centuries. Obviously, there were millions of other people that suffered and died at the hands of the Nazis as well; these other groups are discussed under the topic of Victim Groups.

By covering a broad range of topics related to the Holocaust, my goal has been to try to convey the immense impact that the Holocaust had on all aspects of life for the Jewish people across Europe. There are many excellent sites that provide in-depth information about a particular aspect or geographical region. Taken as a whole, these various sites can provide a deeper and more complete understanding of what happened, and the toll that was extracted from the Jews of Europe. The information has been organized so as to provide a kind of narrative of the history of this tragedy.

This site is also intended to serve as a kind of defense against the very numerous deniers and conspiracy theorists who seek to challenge and undermine the facts of history. In carrying out the research for this project, I came across many sites and writers whose main goal is to prove that the Holocaust is some immense hoax perpetrated by the nefarious Jews in order to extract a monetary ransom form those they hold responsible and to make the rest of the world feel guilty for their alleged acts. Even in this day and age, there are many countries in the world where school children are taught that the Holocaust is a gigantic lie.

I hope that this will be a useful resource for students, researchers and anyone interested in learning about the Holocaust .Your comments and feedback are always welcome.
